BRATISLAVA SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TAKE PART IN ECDL PILOT PROJECT

A pilot project to use ECDL to enhance the digital skills of secondary school students in Bratislava has been launched by SSCS, which is responsible for ECDL in Slovakia, and the city government.

The project is being funded solely by the regional government’s budget and will allow students to take ECDL free of charge.

Sixteen interested schools in the region were selected and subsequently, 29 teachers were trained and certified using the ECDL programme. These teachers are now responsible for teaching 600 participating students between the ages of 15 and 19, who will go on to take ECDL certification themselves.

The students participating in the pilot project are mainly taking the four ECDL Base modules, but some have decided to take Advanced modules in Spreadsheets and Word Processing.

The pilot project will end in 2019 and it is SSCS’s intention to replicate it in seven other Slovak regions, as well as to re-run it in Bratislava for new students.
